Good Q and A. I'm sure we can get you featured again on /. (where I heard about you) once this is back up. That should give you fairly high publicity. The /. crowd will be happy to hear that the teachers will not be able to stifle speech.

Hey Dylan, how's life and all? Just want to quickly tell you or inform you that you're doing a great job and dedication (because of YOUR ingenious website in teacherreviews.com) in keeping us, the students, critically informed and updated of "our" professors' indiocyncratic ways of teaching, for lack of a better definition... thanks again and wish you get this website ready to go ASAP... god bless, ciao!!!

I believe that teacherreviews.com is the best thing that has ever happened to students. I also believe so many students find your website so valuable that if a fee was required to enter the site or to be a member then students would pay it. Im not sure but if the website has a fee to enter isnt it not subject to lawsuits as its a private entity? I think its something to look into. Teacherreviews.com has helped me in ways that I couldnt begin to thank you for. A 5 or 10 dollar charge is reasonable and students would pay it because no one can place a value on the valuable information we get from your website. I think its something to consider. Also maybe placing a survey on the old website to see what student think if you need feedback on anything, not that you do, but its just a suggestion.

you didn't respond to his comments reposted below. what is taking so long? when will it be up? why don't you get help? please post the old reviews until new site up and running. have to register for summer and fall classes next week may 19. thanks"I mean no disrespect because I love the site and what you have done for the community BUT it looks to me like you are unable to handle a full responsibility that comes with this project. That database belongs to students like me who put their time and effort in writing reviews and you are failing us by taking down the site indefinitely, possibly hurting many of us."http://www.DylanGreene.com

What is taking so long: It's a lot of work! I've written thousands of lines of code already, and I have to test every feature before I put it online. Building massive dynamic database-driven web sites that are used by millions of people is by no means a simple task.
The site must be reasonably fast, 100% secure, and 100% safe from hackers.
Building features to prevent fraud takes time too - such as making sure a student can't post more than one review of a professor and making it so that professors can't post reviews of themselves.
As I've said before, anybody that donates to TeacherReviews is given access to current (incomplete) site and all the reviews today - no waiting for the site to launch. You can donate as little as $1 (though more than that is appreciated). The PayPal link is on http://www.TeacherReviews.com.

Question: did you put up the old review site and if so how long did that take?
you keep saying soon the site will be up. you said "march"!just put the old one up so we can use it until new one is ready or why not?Posted May 10, 2004 7:06 PM
I just looked at your photo album on this webpage and noticed a lot of boozing, low women, and late night partying...does not look like you are too productive of a guy and this explains why getting the teacher review done is taking so long...

#10 - I didn't put the old site up, that's impossible for me to do because of all the updates I've done to the database.
ALL OF THE REVIEWS are on the new site, and everybody who sends a $1 or more donation gets access to that site.

Dylan,
I hope you know that the criticism and personal attacks above do not reflect the majority of us who realize the time, dedication and great service you provide for our benefit. People,Lay off the guy! Posted comments are now his, not yours. He's doing his best. Be appreciative and you'll get what you need. Insulting and annoying him certainly won't help.Posted May 13, 2004 12:23 PM
I agree with the previous commenter. One of the hard things about teaching is that a lot of the students are immature, and they just selfishly demand what they want NOW NOW NOW like hungry chicks. And if you give them something, they just want more faster. Part of the educational process is to help them begin to show consideration towards others, but that does not happen rapidly.
I recently posted a comment feature on my own webpage so that my students could comment about my classes anonymously, which is a simple alternative to Teacher Review. The teachers I talked to about that seemed horrified at that idea, but so far it seems to do no harm. Teachers need to stop hiding like guilty criminals and accept being public figures, in my opinion.

Love the preview site. Wish more people from university were using your page though. The page which we mostly now use is severly out of date. Once you are back up, I'm going to put up a page with book exchanges, study group meetings, ect and then link you for the teacher reviews. Hope you are doing well, keep up the cause.

here's something i don't understand. if a student writes an insulting review of the teacher, that post gets banned, right? so we can't read the banned post. but members can. they just go to the banned reviews section. members? who are the members? is that some premium service or something? how does one become a member? my confusion is this: insulting reviews are banned so you can't see them. but if you become a member, voila! you can see them. am i missing something here? what's the point of banned reviews if they're not really banned?
Posted June 3, 2004 6:41 PM
ps: maybe instead of calling them banned reviews you could call them premium reviews or priviledged reviews or members only reviews. they're not really banned, you just gotta become a card-carrying member to see them.

Wow. It's been off since May? And you've been charging admission to the once free reviews? Take it from a geek, NO SITE IS 100% SECURE from HACKERS. This is just proof that you're rippin us off for something that;s been free before. Thanks a bunch.
