Real-life Simpsons Intro...

Just two weeks until Gnomedex, the annual meeting of geeks lead by the lockergnome himself, Chris Pirillo. The subject matter is blogging and everything that revolves around it.

gnomeDEX.jpgSome cool things:

For people going:

  • The .NET Guy is getting people together for dinner on Thursday. Contact him if you are interested.
  • Robert Scoble may be hosting a camping trip after Gnomedex.
  • I'll be staying at the Sixth Avenue Inn.
  • I'll be in Seattle June 22 till Tuesday, June 28.
  • On Monday and/or Tuesday, I'll be visiting friends at Microsoft. Major Nelson, John Porcaro, Dennis, Dave, etc - I expect cool demos that I can't talk about here! <g>

Image is from the great Podbat Blog.

Will Wright got his start with SimCity and is now most widely known for The Sims.

Forget everything you love or hate about The Sims and watch Will Wright's Game Developer's Conference demo of his next game in progress, Spore. This demo is actual game play, not amazing pre-rendered graphics with no game play (*cough* PS3 *cough*).

You start with a micro-organism in a pool of water and build it up to a sentient civilization that spans galaxies. You "evolve" your organisms with a Lego-simplistic interface that could be a game in itself.

It's an hour long, and the premise is how to let gamers create their own content.

Here are some clips from the video:

The video requires "registration" but you just need to give a realistic-looking email address.

When I was a kid I used to love to stack blocks as high as possible. Heck, I still like to stack blocks as high as possible, and the more precarious the better.

Four Juniors at DigiPen Institute of Technology, a university a few blocks from Microsoft's and Nintendo America's headquarters that specializes in the fine art of video games, took the block stacking concept and turned it into an awesome multiplayer game called Bontăgo.

You probably need a good computer for this game, as it looks great, and the physics engine is superb. I've only played against the computer, but when I go home this weekend I plan on challenging my brothers and sister to a block-stacking duel.

Bontăgo is a free download.

From my dad:

Cereality Cereal Bar & Cafe

It's a resturant that serves all kinds of cereal in custom mixes with your choice of toppings. It's all served in chinese food carryout-like boxes.

Yahoo has more about Cereality.

Not much to say about this, except why isn't there one near me yet?

This goes well with Zagat rated Peanut Butter & Co. in Greenwich Village which serves all sorts of peanut butter sandwhiches.

I live just outside of Washington, DC. Do we have any unique places like this here?

What would happen if people took advantage of the "Write In" ballot choice?

The party was great, we had about 60 people, and the house hasn't been to difficult to clean up. I rented a helium tank so we had balloons in every room.  We had a fog machine in garage, and one outside but I never had chance to hook up the outside one.  It didn't matter, we had plenty of alcohol, food, and people.  And just about everybody was in costume.

Photos will be up tonight hopefully.
